That's like asking what is the meaning of life, the true answer is no one knows for sure...(except Imogen of course) the most common theory is that the song refers to the end of an Affair that the character portrayed in the song is having (she's the mistress). The man she's sleeping with has decided to return back to his family and leave her alone by herself, She sees him and his family enjoying their life whilst she's left alone all by herself (he's hiding she's seeking).
